Thoughts on recent market volatility

A number of factors have increased the likelihood of a global recession and weighed on the performance of stocks and bonds. Even so, prevailing long-term bond yields present a unique and possibly fleeting opportunity for investors to satisfy their income requirements and potentially benefit from material capital appreciation without taking undue risks or sacrificing portfolio diversification. Meantime, the decline in equities provides investors with a chance to harvest tax losses before the end of the year and, in the process, replace lower quality stocks with higher quality ones.
